Human Capital Research Corporation (HCRC), a Chicago-based research consultancy specializing in higher education enrollment, finance, and market development is seeking individuals with outstanding technical and creative talents to join us as a full time Data Engineer. Working with HCRC’s development team, this position will work in a collaborative environment building ETL pipelines and converting locally hosted workstreams to a cloud framework.
Working in close concert with HCRC’s other developers, analysts, and senior consultants, responsibilities for the position include:

Technical needs assessment of the design and performance of HCRC’s existing suite of analytic products and identification of new product opportunities

Designing and developing new software to tools automate data conditioning, data display related to HCRC’s analytics
-
Maintenance, quality-control management, error correction and enhancements related to the performance and user-interface of existing applications
-
Managing concept, design, production and implementation of new applications over the course of the entire development life cycle
-
Providing on-going communication and consultation with internal stakeholders concerning status of existing projects and prospective new projects
-
Provide end-user support and related training to ensure programs are utilized properly and smoothly, and deficiencies and requisite improvements are resolved on a timely basis
The ideal candidate will have:

Experience working on a multidisciplinary team to solve data engineering problems including analytics and business intelligence

Understanding of building data pipelines and ETL strategies
-
Knowledge of python, javascript, typescript, HTML, and CSS required
-
Proficiency with a database system such as SQL, DynamoDB, or equivalent
-
Hands-on experience with AWS cloud technologies including Glue, Lambda, and S3
-
Working knowledge of React, PySpark
-
Preferred experience with NoSql and typescript
-
Demonstrated experience of data warehousing concepts and approaches

Full software development life cycle experience
-
Demonstrated experience in Service Orientated Architecture

Experience with GIT or related source control
-
Self-Starter - Inquisitive, motivated and creative
-
Capability to work independently and collaboratively
-
Knowledge of data visualization a plus

Experience working in higher education administration or research a plus
